Hua Hin Golf Courses
Regarded throughout the touring golfer world as a top golfing location, Hua Hin Thailand currently has seven championship golf courses within a thirty minute drive from Hua Hin town centre. Another new golf course, located just South of Hua Hin is due for completion in 2008. To complement those courses in and around Hua Hin, an additional two golf courses can be reached within one to two hours drive, both excellent and well worth a visit.
In Ratchaburi and Kanchanaburi districts two to three hours drive North of Hua Hin, there are several more outstanding and well established courses. These are best covered on two day tours, staying over night at a local hotel.
All of the courses will present a challenge to golfers at every level of their game. They are all generally in very good condition, in beautiful locations each providing excellent clubhouse facilities and including 'watering holes' situated at various stages around the courses. High season in Hua Hin is very busy and with golf being a major attraction the courses are usually full. During this period rounds of golf can take five hours or more for a four ball. Low season produces the opposite effect and you feel that the course belongs to you alone. With year round clement weather conditions, low season (May to October) is an ideal time to take that well earned golfing break. Though this period is known as the 'rainy season', getting a round of golf in every day is not a problem. Late afternoon is when you can expect to experience short but heavy showers, although it is not unusual to go a week or more with no rainfall whatsoever.
At all golf courses in Thailand , caddies (mostly women), are compulsory. Depending on the course, in addition to the green fee your caddy will cost between 200 - 250 Baht per round of golf. Following your round a tip in the region of 200 - 300 Baht is expected. They can be excellent or very bad regarding their knowledge of the course and the game. It is difficult to assess the ability of each caddy on one game of golf. We all expect different levels of competence from them (based on our own golf experience) and there is no doubt that in some cases, new caddies can be found extremely wanting. However, it is down to the individual golfer to establish the level of assistance required against that which is available. A smile, a joke and very simple communication together with a little patience goes a long way. At the end of the day you are just hitting the ball while they do the work. Please treat them with respect.
